Little Tree Huggers offer part-time holistic Hygge-Waldorf inspired drop-off sessions for children 3 years and up, who are seeking an alternative education, flexi-schooling or home educating.

This is a nurturing, play-based environment where children learn through imagination, movement and hands-on experiences. Rooted in nature and rhythms, it fosters creativity, social connection and a deep love for learning. With storytelling, art and practical activities, children develop confidence, independence and joy in discovery.

This group is all about discovery, creativity and connection. Learning topics unfold through stories, art and hands-on activities. Nature, rhythm and movement keep learning fun and engaging, building confidence, curiosity and a love for exploring the world.

This group nurtures growing independence and critical thinking. Children dive into themes through storytelling, mythology, handwork and practical projects. Creativity and movement keep learning dynamic, while nature and community connection foster confidence, resilience and a sense of wonder.

We currently don't have any children enrolled for this age group. Please message if this is something you'd like to see. As soon as we have enough interest, we'll get this up and running.

We know the importance of healthy minds and healthy bodies. Nutrition is key to both of these as well as for growth and development. We all sit together at mealtimes, as this promotes good table manners as well as encouraging those social skills.
Children have access to fresh drinking water at all times, of which they are encouraged to help themselves to throughout the day.
All children are offered a morning snack. Throughout the week, we eat the fruits of the rainbow. On Tuesdays, we eat red & orange: raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, pomegranate, satsuma, papaya. On Wednesdays, we eat yellow & green: mango, pineapple, banana, apple, pear, kiwi, avocado. And on Thursdays, we eat blue & purple: blueberries, blackberries, grapes, cherries.
Children can choose to either bring a packed lunch or they can have a Little Tree Huggers lunch. We have Soup & Sourdough Tuesdays; Pasta Wednesdays; and Salad Bar Thursdays.

1000 hours outside is a movement, encouraging families to spend more time outdoors. Here at Little Tree Huggers, we enjoy being outside with the children, no matter the weather. Our gardens are a perfect environment for little explorers, mud kitchen enthusiasts and for taking any reading and art activities outside. We also have plenty of nature walks and play parks right on our doorstep, and we utilise all of these as an extension of our outdoor space.
Everybody needs a bottle for water. Please ensure this is named / labelled.
If supplying your child with a lunchbox from home, please ensure it meets the healthy choices standards. This means ensuring it's a highly nutritious meal packed with veg, salad and or fruit, wholefoods and lean proteins. Please ensure there are no ultra processed foods as these contain high quantities of artificial foods which have adverse effects on overall health and behaviour.
Everybody will need a packed lunch during our Holiday Clubs.
At least two full and complete changes of clothing please. We like to get involved and fully emersed in the activities at Little Tree Huggers, many of which tend to be messy.
At Little Tree Huggers, we go outside in all weathers.
In winter, please pack warm layers, a coat, hats, gloves, etc, a full waterproof outer shell layer, and waterproof footwear.
In Summer, please pack cool, light and airy layers, sunhats and your choice of sunscreen.
In Spring and Autumn, please pack appropriately... some weeks this could involve packing one of everything!
Bringing toys in from home carries far too many problems than its worth, so please leave them all at home.
We have plenty for all children to do and to keep themselves busy with at Little Tree Huggers.
A Little Tree Huggers day runs from 9am to 3pm, Tuesday to Thursday. Unfortunately, we don't offer half or part days. Children can do any number of days per week.

The law states children in the UK should be receiving full time education from the term after they turn 5. However, this doesn't have to be in a school. More and more families are now choosing to Electively Home Educate their children, making use of trips out, activity groups and sometimes tutors.
Rudolf Steiner - the founder of Waldorf education, along with many different education systems from around the world recognise that 7 is the age at which formal learning should begin.
Studies have shown that children who spend their formative years in a more natural and play-based learning environment are usually much more independent, responsible, inquisitive, creative, self-confident and motivated to learn than their state-school counterparts. At Little Tree Huggers, we allow children to develop in a more holistic and natural manner so they possess the foundations necessary for being enthusiastic future learners.
Children who follow an 'unschooling' method of home education are very much so able to catch up with their peers, pass exams and go on to universities and have successful careers. Delaying formal education can actually lead to improved grades in later childhood.
For example, children in Finland don't start school until 7, and they are the global leaders in English, Maths and Science. Their government prioritise well-being, creativity and joy in learning.
Deferring your child's school place means delaying their start date until the term after they turn 5, rather than starting in the September following their 4th birthday. Parents will need to discuss with the school whether the child goes into either the Reception class or Year 1.
Families can continue to access their early years entitlement with an early years provider until the term after their child turns 5.
Working families claiming Universal Credit with children under 17 years of age are able to claim back up to 85% of eligible childcare costs. Upfront childcare costs may be available to eligible parents moving in to work or increasing hours.
